When to Apply

The Financial Aid Process

1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on the web at www.fafsa.ed.gov and list our school code 007047.

a) If you do not already have your Personal Identification Number (PIN), apply for a PIN at www.pin.ed.gov before completing the FAFSA on the web. The PIN is used to electronically sign the FAFSA or;

b) You can complete a paper FAFSA. You can obtain the FAFSA from a high school or college Financial Aid Office and mail it to the Central Processing System (CPS).

2. After you submit your FAFSA, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR). Review your SAR to make sure the information is correct. If any information is incorrect, contact the Financial Aid Office to find out how to make corrections. The College will receive your record electronically if you listed the college’s federal school code on your FAFSA.

3. When your information is received electronically, a Document Tracking Letter will be mailed to you requesting additional documents/forms to process your file. Incomplete documents can delay the processing for your file.

4. Once the Financial Aid Office reviews all required documentation and complete the verification process, if required, the file is complete.

5. If you are determined eligible for aid, an Award Letter will be mailed to you.

6. If the Award Letter includes a Federal Work Study Award, you must contact our office at (323) 241-5338 for a work study assignment.

7. Financial Aid checks, except loans, are either sent by mail to your home address or transferred electronically (EFT) to the student’s back account. Bring a voided check or a copy of your bank statement to the Business Office to set up EFT.

a) You can check your financial aid status online at www.laccd.edu

b) The entire process can take a few weeks or several months, depending on the required documentation needed to complete and review the file and how quickly you turn in the required documentation.
