Is there a charge to apply?
There is no charge to apply, except for international (F-1 Visa) students, who pay $35.
What are the admissions requirements?
Southwest College has an open admissions policy. A high school diploma is not required.
Are transcripts from other colleges or high schools required?
No. The only time you would want to have copies of transcripts from other schools sent to Southwest is when you want Southwest to use a course from another school for graduation, certification, or course prerequisite requirements.
What degrees does Southwest offer?
Southwest offers two-year Associate degrees in the arts and sciences, Occupational Certificate programs and general education transfer programs.

If you're planning to take Math or English courses, or if you wish to pursue a degree, you will be given an appointment to take English and math assessments and participate in an orientation to the college. You will then meet with a counselor to develop an individualized enrollment plan. Finally, you will register for classes either in person, online, or by telephone (STEP).
Exemptions from English and Math assessment are available to students taking courses for personal interest.
What is the cost?
Effective winter 2007. California residents pay only $20 per unit. Non-resident tuition is $159 per unit and non-resident out-of-state tuition is $169 per unit. All students will be charged the health fee ($11 for fall; $11 for spring; $8 for summer; $8 for winter). This fee will no longer be waived for student who are eligible for a fee waiver.
Where do I get admission forms?
Admission forms and petitions are available in the Admissions and Records Office, Student Services Center 125. For your convenience, we have made the following forms available online.

How do I order my Southwest transcripts?
Copies of Unofficial Transcripts and grades can be obtained online. A transcript is an official record of all the courses you completed at Southwest College and the grades you received. It will also include any degrees you were awarded by Southwest, as well as honors such as placement on the Dean's list or membership in Alpha Gamma Sigma. If you are requesting your transcript to be sent to another school, keep in mind that most schools only consider the transcript "official" if they receive it in the original sealed envelope. Unfortunately, we cannot accept faxed transcript requests.

You are entitled to two transcripts or verification of enrollment free of charge. After that the charge for transcripts is $3.00 each. It usually takes seven business days for your transcript to be sent. An emergency transcript service is available. With emergency service, your transcript is usually prepared within 1 business day of the time the request is received. If you bring in your emergency request, you will receive your transcript on the spot. There is an extra $7.00 processing fee for emergency service, bringing the total charge for EACH emergency transcript to $10.00.
You may request that your transcript be mailed by the US Post Office Express Mail Service. Please include a prepaid and addressed mailing envelope with your request. We cannot honor requests for any private overnight or express mail service.
